At HAVAÍC, our networks go hand in hand with the smart capital we provide our companies. We work closely with our private and institutional investors, fellow fund managers, and portfolio companies to identify opportunities and support Africa's up-and-coming tech startups.
These introductions are often the start of very successful partnerships - opportunities to leverage a powerful combination of capital, strategic support, an eye for detail and financial sustainability, and a focus on best practice and governance, to turn African-born startups into global success stories.
This was precisely how it played out when one of our private investors first introduced us to Sportable in 2023, as he was an angel investor at the time. The early-stage company's global potential and vast market opportunity were undeniable.
Founded by two South Africans, Sportable is a data collection and analytics platform that improves performance in sport through micro-tracking sensors embedded in balls and on players. The tech is used by leading leagues, sports media, betting companies, teams, players, and officials.
At the time, Sportable enjoyed significant technical success through its partnerships with Six Nations Rugby, Australian Football, and leading ball manufacturers Gilbert and Sherrin; however, its commercial journey was still developing. The business required smart capital to further fuel growth and the support of a realistic and financially sustainable commercial strategy. HAVAÍC first backed Sportable in December 2023 as a lead investor in a Series A investment round, and acted as a lead investor in subsequent funding rounds. We joined the board and worked alongside the founders, shareholders, and the newly appointed CFO to build out governance, optimise costs, prioritise goals, and ensure the business is financially secure and globally competitive. Here's how Sportable has grown over the past 18 months -
3 x revenue growth
Entry into North American Football & the English Premiership League
Commercial partnerships with Nike, Wilson, and Puma
30% cost saving by serving global markets out of South Africa
US$30m in capital raised and currently being raised
And with revenue projected to once again triple in the current financial year, Sportable is only just getting started.

Our track record in supporting African-born technology startups with global potential is further illustrated by recent successes across our portfolio, including HearX, RapidDeploy, and AURA. Catch the details below. With our US$50 million Fund 3 currently investing in post-revenue Seed, Series A, and Series B technology companies with roots in Africa, we look forward to collaborating with our network of investors and partners, applying smart capital, and creating more local success stories by going global together.
